Is “Second Life” our real second life?

It is exciting to find another me in the virtual world.
However, when I read some articles dealing with Second Life, I began to worry about it's future.

That’s because when the virtual world relates to real life tasks, such as finances, it will bring some copycat crimes from the reality of our lives.

Of course, it has a bright side. In the case of “Second Life's First Millionaire,” Anshe Chung is the first millionaire. It is not only success in the virtual worlds, but also success in the actual world because Second Lives’ cash, “Linden dollars,” can be converted to real cash.

On the other hand, with keen observation we can think about the opposite side; fraud, swindling, money crimes.

In Korea, there are some cases similar to these criminal acts. the Korean famous 3D game “Lineage” also has game money called “Aden”.

There are a lot of items which can improve characters’ fighting skills, that can be purchased by Aden. The “Lineage” became more popular so there were cash transactions between items and cash.

Unfortunately, extensive cyber frauds linked to money and items occurred.

More surprisingly, the criminals were teenagers!

How amazing! Virtual world is closely connected with reality. However, it tells us the virtual world cannot completely escape the actual.

I can say the Second Life is another aspect of reality, not just a fancy new world!

I believe that second life in cyber space has more side effect than benefit. For example, teenagers easilly indulge themselves in games which is similar to second life. Some of them do not even go to school to play games. A few years ago I found a news article which is about the married couple who made money by making money in syber space. They palyed lineage as a job!!!!

yeah..Lineage is really problem in Korea because of its risky language, nudity, and violence, but it still popular to many Korean. I saw TV document about Lineage's violence and addiction. I remember one boy who became violent in real world, after he addicted to Lineage. He even use violence to his parents who are try to stop his game. So I think there should be rating program to prevent children connecting to strong addictable game.

In the US there's a video game called Grand Theft Auto that has been very controversial due to the violence in it. In the game players steal cars, kill cops and run over pedestrians.

A few years ago there was a lawsuit against the makers of the game because an 18-year-old, who played Grand Theft Auto day and night for months, killed three cops after stealing a car. There was no distinguishing between reality and "second life." I think after being in a virtual world for so long for some people it becomes a reality. That's when I think virtual worlds become scary.
